Take Note: June's Blogger of the Month

For June, I decided to feature Liz from Olive, My Love as my blogger of the month. Her style is really accessible while still being inspirational and chic. She posts about her adventures as well so her blog is always a good read. She kindly answered some questions for me below.
How did you first get involved with blogging?
I became interested in blogging through the Wardrobe Remix Flickr group in 2008. A lot of the girls who contributed also had blogs, so I began to follow a few. I was looking for a way to channel some of my creative leanings and a blog seemed like a good way to create some kind of scrapbook. I didn't want it to be a personal style blog initially, because I felt like, "Who do I think I am??" when it came to posting picture of myself. It also felt like a daunting task to keep it up. With some encouragement from friends (and the amazing IFB Conference in February) I started to write more substantial posts. It definitely feels more personal now, which I really enjoy.
Describe your personal style.
Refined 90's with a classic, clean 60's styling aesthetic.
Who are your style icons?
Currently: Marina Munoz Always: My mom
Where do you get your inspiration from?
Most of my inspiration comes from regular girls that I see on the street and my friends! I also obviously look to fellow bloggers, style sites and magazines now and then, but I think the best ideas come from real people that you know.
How does where you live affect your style?
Besides having to dress for the elements, I think being in Brooklyn and helped me simplify my wardrobe. It might also be because I'm older now, but I am more interested in owning a few key pieces and things I really love as opposed to having the most up to date trend right closet. Brooklynites march to the beat of their own drum - they don't always follow trends and tend to stick to tried and true classics and that is definitely something that I relate to.
What's your favourite book, movie and band?
Ooh this is hard because I don't really have favorites, but...
-The Great Gatsby has always been a favorite book of mine since high school, although I am reading a lot of J.D. Salinger right now and I'm kind of falling in love.
- I'm not the biggest movie buff, but I love "There Will Be Blood" and "Now and Then" is pretty much the most perfect girly summer movie of all time.
- I'm currently listening to a lot of Tennis, Fleet Foxes and Zombies and I'm always listening to Wilco, Justin Townes Earle, Jenny Lewis and a variety of 60's girl groups like the Shangri-Las.
What would be your perfect Saturday?
Renting a car and taking an adventure out of town with my guy. Probably something involving historical monuments!
If you could be anywhere in the world right now, where would it be?
Camping by a lake in the Shennendoah Valley.
What's one fashion faux pas you secretly love?
Black with navy. It's totally chic, demure and sexy when done right.
If you could live in one movie, which would it be?
I would like to live in a movie about my life where I have more money and a better apartment with a very large closet.
Any tips for aspiring personal style bloggers?
Be true to yourself and write as if you were talking to a friend. It's easier, comes more naturally and people will relate to you.

Take Note: May's UK Blogger of the Month

Before we lose the rest of May, I want to share with you the UK Blogger of the Month. Hannah of Foxtail and Fern is such a stunning and stylish girl with a blog full to the brim of wonderful photographs. She agreed to do an interview for me below and I have a feeling you'll all be as fond of her style as I am.

How did you first get involved with blogging?

I first got involved after coming across a personal style blog written by a girl living in Singapore (I don't think it exists anymore). I'd never seen anything like it and after browsing her archives for about an hour I was transfixed. That was about 3/4 years ago, and now here we are!

Describe your personal style.
Simple and vintage-inspired.

Who are your style icons?
Other fashion bloggers for the most part, although I do also take inspiration from the likes of Alexa Chung, Chloe Sevigny, etc.

Where do you get your inspiration from?
A heck of a lot of it comes from the internet! But I also get inspired by people I see on the street, and by nature.

How does where you live affect your style?
I think I definitely dress more interestingly when I'm in Edinburgh, which is where I go to university. In Edinburgh you see a lot more diversity in the way that people dress in comparison to Coventry, which is the closest city to where I live when I'm home for the summer.

What's your favourite book, movie and band?
I don't really have a favourite book, but my favourite genre is sci-fi and fantasy. The same goes for movies and music, I don't really have any favourites, I just like lots of things!

What would be your perfect Saturday?
One where I'd wake up early and getting straight on the road to some obscure little English village where I'd spend the day browsing antique shops and visiting old country estates. Stopping on the way at a service station for breakfast would be fundamental! I love service stations because they remind me of going on holiday when I was younger.

If you could be anywhere in the world right now, where would it be?
Well the weather's really miserable here at the moment, so anywhere with sunshine would be nice.

What's one fashion faux pas you secretly love?
Oh I don't know! To be honest, I probably love loads of things that are considered to be a faux pas without actually realising that they are faux pas!

If you could live in one movie, which would it be?
Harry Potter! Oh the disappointment when I turned 11 and didn't get my letter.

Any tips for aspiring personal style bloggers?

Be a better blogger than I am and update frequently! Also, try putting some thought into where you take your pictures; I think a nice location can really make outfit photos stand out.

Take Note: May's International Blogger of the Month

I gave up on Take Note for a while because I kept running out of time but recently I was browsing some blogs and stumbled across Grace's blog, Exquisite Boredom, and I knew I had to feature her so here we are with Take Note again! Her style is so feminine and quirky with charm
emanating from every outfit. A girl after my own heart. She kindly agreed to do an interview for me which you can see below.
Let me introduce Grace!
How did you first get involved with blogging?
I don't remember well, it was about 3 years ago when I started looking
through the fashion blogs. Then, I tried to create my own, but I
wasn't very patient and I gave up after a short time. This year I
tried once again and I really enjoy it!

Describe your personal style.
I don't know how to call my style, but it's mostly romantic, sometimes
boho, sometimes vintage, sometimes modern. I love pastel clothes,
flower dresses and lace tops. My closet couldn't also exist without
blazers and some basics, to compare with.

Who are your style icons?
Fashion bloggers, models and popculture icons. E.g. Audrey Hepburn,
Marlena Dietrich, Grace Kelly. Modern people: Abbey Lee Kershaw, Freja
Beha, Bambi Northwood-Blyth, Mary-Kate Olsen, Chloë Sevigny, Alexa
Chung and so on. I also like the way how girls from 'Gossip Girl'
dress.

Where do you get your inspiration from?
From many sources, mostly from fashion blogs and street style blogs,
but also from fashion magazines, TV series, etc.

How does where you live affect your style?
I live in a countryside, people who live here don't really care abot
their appearance, so they sometimes look at me like if I was an alien,
but I don't find myself extravagant so I don't care about them. I wear
things in which I feel comfortable and which I like.

What's your favourite book, movie and band?
Some of my favorite books: 'Pride and Prejudice', 'PS. I love you',
'The Devil Wears Prada'.
I have a lot of favorite movies, such as 'Breakfast at Tiffany's',
'Fight Club', 'Requiem for a dream', 'The Notebook', 'American
Beauty', 'Boy A', etc.
I don't have a favorite band, but I love listening to indie rock
musicians, e.g. The Kooks, Kasabian, Foals, Lykke Li, Snow Patrol and
many others.

What would be your perfect Saturday?
I would start my prefect Saturday visiting SPA and spending time
relaxing, then go on shopping with
friends, picking some clothes to be
ready for a perfect date and at the end of a day, a girl's night out!

If you could be anywhere in the world right now, where would it be?
New York City or Taiwan.

What's one fashion faux pas you secretly love?
I don't have any, I guess;)
If you could live in one movie, which would it be?
 'The Notebook'.

Any tips for aspiring personal style bloggers?
Never give up, always wear the clothes you really like and you feel
comfortable wearing them and also HAVE FUN WITH FASHION!

Take Note: March's International Blogger of the Month

For March, I wanted to choose someone who really deserved some more exposure. I stumbled across Isla's blog and knew I'd found the right girl straight away. Her style is amazing, really feminine and classic and she's so sweet as well. She kindly answered some questions for me so please let me introduction you to Isla of A Fine Day for Sailing.

How did you first get involved with blogging?
A couple of my good friends have beautiful blogs. I always read them and secretly wanted to start one. On a trip back home to visit my father, i discovered he had started a blog. If he could do it, surely i could too. We made a pact to blog once a week and the rest is history.

Describe your personal style.
Most of my clothes are thrifted, so as a result i wear alot of vintage pieces. Lately more 60's stuff. I love the excitement of thrifting; I often find myself trying on things i would never have dreamt of wearing and falling in love.

Who are your style icons?
There are so many! From Twiggy and Brigitte Bardot to Joan Harris and Betty Draper. Not to mention all the lovely ladys whose blogs i read daily.

Where do you get your inspiration from?
From all around me. Whether it is a walk down the street, sitting in a cafe people watching, listening to music, reading blogs or watching movies. I'm also inspired by my friends and family. I grew up in Africa and Scotland so without a doubt that too acts as inspiration.

What's your favourite book, movie and band?
Book: A little princess by Frances Hodgson Burnett for sentimental reasons
Movie: The Royal Tenenbaums
Band: Talking heads... but lately i've been listening to the tallest man on earth, radio department and tennis alot

If you could be anywhere in the world, where would it be?
I wouldn't want to live anywhere else, but i'd love to visit Borneo, for the people, rainforest, and the orangutans.

What's one fashion faux pas you secretly love?
My eighties rebook high tops. Shhhhh.

Do you think where you live affects your style?
Absolutely, not only does San Francisco's weather make it easy, but it's also a completely inspiring place to live. People on the streets are always pushing boundaries, so i feel comfortable and confident wearing whatever i want. This would certainly not be the case in the small town i grew up in.

What would be your ideal Saturday?
I'd start by sleeping in! Have a big breakfast in bed then head to a bunch of thrift stores. After i'd meet friends for coffee. We would all jump on our bikes and ride around till sunset. I'd finish off the day at papalote, a fancy burrito place around the corner from my house.

If you could live in one book what would it be?
The Borrowers. As a child i was facinated by the world Mary Norten created, and of course Arrietty and i would be best of friends.

Any tips for aspiring fashion bloggers?
I'm pretty new to fashion blogging and i have had nothing but positive interactions and experiences. If i could go back in time i would have started this years ago, i was just intimidated and shy or something. My advise is to go for it! Don't worry about it not being perfect, or making mistakes. Have fun and do it for you.

So head over and check out Isla's blog here!

Take Note: February's International Blogger of The Month

February's International Blogger of the Month is a girl who truly is one of my favourite bloggers, Kate from Postcards From. Whenever I need a bit of inspiration or just want to look at some pretty pictures, Kate's blog always has something to offer. Her style is so wonderful and feminine and she's one of the nicest girls I've had the pleasure to talk to. Can you tell I really adore Kate?

How did you first get involved with blogging?
I have always had a fascination for fashion blogging. When I was in Highschool I remember racing home after class just to go on the computer to see the handful of blogs that I had bookmarked on my computer. I thought it was such a creative outlet for girls to be able to express themselves through their love of fashion. I was sitting at a friends house earlier last year when she just told me to start one of my own. Ofcourse, I thought she was crazy, but secretly I knew I really wanted to! I did my first outfit post as a bit of a joke. I got my boyfriend Nathan to take the pictures and crossed my fingers that I would get atleast one comment. I didnt get just one but I got a few comments, and since then I just never stopped!

Describe your personal style.
You know, this is a hard one because my personal style is literally all over the place. I love girly feminine pieces, but vintage is also so dear to my heart. I love wearing items that have been preloved in another era. 98% of the time you will find me in tights. Sometimes I even wear tights to bed! My personal style is always evolving and changing...and I love that!

Who are your style icons?
Oh gosh, this list could go on forever. Audrey Hepburn was such a babe of her time and anyone who knows me knows that I am borderline obsessed with her. I will always love black dresses and pearls thanks to her. I am in love with Alexa Chung (I want her entire closet!) and also have a soft spot for the blogger Betty Autier of Le Blog De Betty - shes the reason I started wearing heels!

Where do you get your inspiration from?
Absolutely all over the place! I love to people watch, so whether I am stopped at a red light or sitting in a restaurant, I love seeing how other people have pieced together their clothing. I have been known to be inspired by vegetables and fruit at the grocery store. When I see different colors together I get a lot of inspiration for my outfits. And ofcourse, fellow style bloggers. Im seriously blown away by some of my blogging friends with how gorgeous they are and just rock everything they wear!

How does where you live affect your style?
I just moved home from Australia to Canada and definately felt a sense of change with my wardrobe! I wore obviously alot of shorts and tanktops in Australia, but I have worn dresses non stop since December. I love being able to mix dresses with big thick cardigan's and scarves. I live in a pretty small city so everyone is very casual with their style. I definately get a bit of weird looks when I am out for how I dress!

What's your favourite thing about where you live and what was your favourite thing about Australia too?
Great question! I love Canada so so much. I could go on forever about my favorite things about this nation, but I think the main thing I love about where I live is the seasons. The city that I lived in in Australia was basically hot 95% of the year. I love being in Canada and watching the weather change. I havent experienced a Spring or Autumn for almost three years, so I am SO excited about that. My favorite thing about Australia is probably the people. Australia is such a relaxed and easy going country, even when you live there you always feel like you are on vacation! Its amazing.

What's your favourite book, movie and band?
Oooh, tough question! Its so hard to pick just one. My favorite book has always been 'Are you there God? Its me Margaret' just because I am such a sucker for Judy Bloom! Edward Scissor Hands has always and will always be my favorite movie. I find Edward so dreamy (is that weird?)..im always rooting for the underdog! Favorite band? Eeep....I would have to say Death Cab for Cutie. I know, I know, typical...but they dont have one song I dont like!

What would be your perfect Saturday?
The perfect Saturday...would include a nice long sleep in, huge breakfast with lots of fresh fruit, a walk with my mom and dad, a family dinner with my dads famous salmon, and an early night in with a bubble bath and romance movie! Ah, perfection!

If you could be anywhere in the world right now, where would it be?
I would go to Paris and never come back. Hehe, I have always wanted to go to Europe, so if I could go anywhere in the world I wouldnt even think twice about it.

What's one fashion faux pas you secretly love?
Ive grown a fondness of (gasp!) short-alls. Yes, short overalls. Im nervous to see how my love towards them pans out this Spring. And also...the black and brown combo. Whoever made that fashion faux pas is ridiculous..it can work, you just need to know how to put it all together!

If you could live in one movie, which would it be?
Pride and Prejudice! Mr Darcy is so charming and gorgeous, and I love the era and setting. I think that would be an absolute dream come true! Runner up? Star Wars. How epic would that be?!

Any tips for aspiring personal style bloggers?
Always stay true to yourself. Its so easy to be swayed and start to think "I need to buy new clothes! I need to start dressing more like her, and change my entire blog layout and get a new camera so I can have amazing photos" but at the end of the day, your true followers follow you because they are interested in YOU. Another thing I try to always remember is to have fun. If you are a style blogger and suddenly your blog has become a chore and taking outfit shots isnt fun at all, its time to say au revoir to blog land..because its just not worth it. You need to love what you are doing! Always respond to emails, tweets, comments (as much as you can!) and show your readers that they mean just as much to you as you do to them! And...always smile!! :)
