For this fortnight's installment of Films to Note, I thought I'd pick a theme which is extremely close to my heart. As a film student, short films are a very big part of my life. I've just finished writing my first one, hopefully to put it into production soon, and I'm starting the research stage on another. Shorts are a wonderful world of glimpses and to produce a good quality one is harder than you would think. That being said I'm going to share with you five short films that I love.
1. Mono (2006)
A film by Richard Smith
Such an adorable and original love story, this is the short I always show to people when trying to get them involved with watching shorts.

2. Signs (2009)
A film by Patrick Hughes.
Another romance, with a similar theme to the previous one, this is a huge hit on youtube but I couldn't resist including it because it's an all time favourite. It's not always about dialogue in films.
3. The News
A film by Luke Shanahan
A great short short with a hilarious twist. Future Shorts is the perfect place to find shorts to watch, they even have regular events all across the world showcasing their films.
4. Luv Deluxe (2009)
A film by Saman Keshavarz
A fast paced music video style short that asks the question, what if?
5. On Time
A film by Bianca Bodmer
A wonderful surreal story that shows how much you can do in just one location with a few actors and a lot of imagination.
What is your favourite short film?

O my! All of these films are wonderful. I adooore the first two ones, but I guess I was rather in the mood for a feel-good movie; "The News" was horribly brilliant too (though I'd have loved to see some further reaction on the girl's part) and "On time" is great too! I've always liked watching short films, it's a pity they are not a popular genre and rarely broadcast here (except on one particular channel, but hey, what's the internet for ;o))
Have you ever seen the Australian film "Stranded"? It's not really a short film but rather a mid-length one (if that makes sense). Anyway, it is pure genius.
Good luck with your studies, sounds pretty fun!
xx
